The Lady In My Mind- from Skeptic to Embracing my Intuitive Gifts
I want to share with you a ghost story for Spooky Season that I wrote in 2021, as a way of remembering my time in Savannah, Georgia. I experienced the following story in the same year. As I re-read what I wrote in 2026, I am amazed by how far along I have come in my journey of remembering how to use intuitive abilities. Its very clear to me now what I experienced was clairvoyance, but I only recognized it as “sensing energy”.
I also used to be very embarrassed by my ability to “sense energy.” I was afraid I was going to be judged by the people around me or worst myself. I still am in fear about this from time to time. But, here I am today, sharing my gift with you. Holding both fear and excitement at once. Doing the thing anyway because I know it is the right path.
Without further delay here is my ghost story….
Savannah, Georgia called me to her and I answered. I was drawn to her, like a fly to something sweet.
It had became almost an obsession for me to go there on vacation in late fall of 2021. It was stuck in my mind on a loop. That’s really how it always goes, when my higher self wants me to do something and I resist It gets stuck in my head and I anxiously obsess over it, until I make a move. I was not sure why I needed to go there. I suspected it had to be apart of my journey.
I asked my husband to take me on a trip to Savannah for my birthday. He was put off by this, I had never spoken of Savannah before. I did not mention my need to go to Savannah, I only expressed the want to go some place warm and that I wanted to explore a new city. You see my husband is a rather blunt and logical guy. I felt he simply would not understand that I was being called there.
A few days before my birthday we packed up a rented camper van with our dog in tow. The road trip was actually my husband’s idea, to avoid the inevitable delays at the airport due to staff shortages or COVID.
When we arrived to Savannah after a 15 hour drive, we marveled at its old world beauty and charm. It turned out to be an extremely walkable city, one thing our dog very much enjoyed. She seemed happy to be on an endless walk, being pet by friendly strangers and eating endless amounts of treats.
“Nothing odd so far.” I thought has we ate and drank our way around the city. “I wonder why I am here?” We spent that evening in the Airbnb, due to the inclement weather. This is when I saw the first spirit. My husband had stepped out to take our dog for a walk and I was zoning out on my phone. I looked up to the entrance of the hallway and there was a silhouette of a man. He was dressed in what looked like clothing from a different era. I could also make out he had a mustache and was wearing round glasses. Then he just faded away…
“What the heck?! I did not just see that!” This is the first time something like this has happened to me. Usually I feel energy, I never see things. I semi wrote it off as a hallucination. We were just watching a psychologically thrilling TV show on Netflix and I did have a glass of wine. But, a part of me believed what I saw was real.
I looked up the history of the home to see if I could find a picture of the man that had the home built for. Nothing, no pictures or articles. I considered messaging the host, but I decided against it. What was I going to say? “Hey, umm, so, I saw something in your house.” Nope, not going there. So, I just let it go.
Our last night in Savannah. I booked a ghost walk for my birthday. Savannah really does embrace that part of herself. Touted as one of the most haunted cities in the country, ghost walks are a nightly occurrence. I am always down for a history lesson that includes paranormal activity.
The tour started off like any other ghost walk I have been on, with a stop to the city’s cemetery. The tour guide informed us that there was a poltergeist situation with regard to this cemetery. By poltergeist, I mean the movie, “you moved the head stones, but not the bodies!” The tour guide advised that from the cemetery, for about a 10-15 min walk the homes are all build on the former cemetery. The current cemetery is just a small plot of land, tucked away from most of the homes. The guide also explained this is a possible explanation for all the paranormal happenings in Savannah.
We walked to several homes, and the guide told tales of hauntings and provided evidence gathered by former tour attendees. We eventually stopped at a very large white home. The guide, like the other homes, told a tale of death and subsequent hauntings.
During the story, I began to feel like I was being watched. It was an odd sensation, like an abrupt energy shift. I was relaxed, then all of the sudden my nervous system was at attention. As I mentioned previously, I do consider myself sensitive to energy. I tend to feel the energy of the people room when I enter. I was picking up a new persons energy that was not apart of the tour group.
I first felt the energy begin to watch me from the sun room. Then when the tour guide began to talk about the paranormal activity in the house, that is when I felt the energy move to the bay window in front of me. In my minds eye, I saw a woman with her head sticking out of the window, watching me. I was rather creeped out by this.
It reached the part of the tour where the guide was to show us the photo evidence gathered for this home. In my head I distinctly remember saying to my self, “Wouldn’t it be messed up if it was the woman that I am feeling and seeing in my mind?”
The iPad made its way over to me. I took a look at the photograph and I was shocked. I broke out in goose flesh, my nervous system was overwhelmed now. In the picture was the women I had seen in my mind with her head in the exact bay window I was standing in front of. She was dressed in a victorian style dress, her hair in a bun and she looked really sinister. Like she was pissed people were standing so close to the home.
A part of me wishes I had said something right then and there, but I did not think it would be well received. I have selectively told a few people about my experience in Savannah. Mostly I have been keeping it to myself, processing the things I saw and experienced while I was there.
What I have come to understand since that trip, is I was meant to go there to open up my senses further and reignite my interest in spirituality. I can now see energy once in a while and I am working on further developing my gift, a gift all of us have the ability to tap into.
